While no official deal is in place yet, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed that Channing Tatum has scored the role of Gambit in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse".
Speaking with Total Film in the UK last night, Donner indicated Tatum is a lock:
"It is Channing, yes. Well you know he's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he'll be great, he'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he's not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."
Asked about what other X-Men characters they want to tackle next, Donner said: "Deadpool yes. X-Force is fascinating, we love X-Force as it allows us to be a little grittier."
The talk comes as the first press reviews for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" hit. While some of the American fanboy press praised the film greatly on social media the other day, the general UK press reaction has been decidedly more mixed.
Mostly the reviews indicate that those who are fans of the series and up on all the details will get a lot more out of it as it is very continuity-heavy and relies on your recall of events in past "X-Men" films. Those reviewers who are fans of the series though are saying it's the best yet and/or up there with "X2".
