WWE star Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy") and UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") are teaming up for a remake of the classic Jean-Claude Van Damme 1989 action feature "Kickboxer" at Radar Pictures.
The story follows David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Californian fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother's protestations that the man is a crook.
When Kurt travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died and seeks his revenge. Mark DiSalle directed the original which starred Van Damme and world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio.
Stuntman and martial artist Alain Moussi serves as the lead in the remake which Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung ("Tai Chai Zero") is helming.
The new "Kickboxer" will be shopped to foreign buyers later this week in Cannes. Ted Field will produce.
