Director Andres Muschietti ("Mama") has dropped out of the untitled "The Mummy" reboot at Universal Pictures. Muschietti cited creative differences being the cause.
Len Wiseman was originally attached to direct in 2012 but departed due to scheduling conflicts. Muschietti has been onboard since September.
Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus") wrote the most recent draft which is set in modern day times with characters not seen any of the previous films.
Producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were originally envisioning a darker version of the mythology, however it now seems the studio is aiming for more of a family-friendly action-adventure.
The parting is said to be amicable though, with Universal and Muschietti said to be considering other projects to team up on.
