Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Let the Right One In") is slated to direct an adaptation of "Headhunters" author Jo Nesbo's crime novel "The Snowman" for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.
The story revolves around Harry Hole, a detective who has been featured in ten previous Nesbo novels. A loose cannon within the Oslo police force, Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.
Alfredson will take over from Martin Scorsese who was circling the project at one point. Working Title hopes to create a cost-effective film series around the character, ala the two Morgan Freeman Alex Cross films.
Alfredson will work on a draft of the screenplay with writer Soren Sveistrup. Piodor Gustafsson, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce.
