October Gale
Scott Speedman is set to star opposite Patricia Clarkson in Ruba Nadda's "October Gale". Speedman plays a mysterious man who, during a violent October storm, washes up on a remote island cottage, unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Clarkson plays a recently widowed doctor who takes him in, only to find that the shooter is coming back to finish the job, and that the storm has cut them off from the mainland. [Source: Deadline]

Goosebumps: The Movie
Ryan Lee ("Super 8") has joined the cast of the film adaptation of R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" book series at Sony Pictures.

Dylan Minnette plays a young man who must team with a horror author (Jack Black) and his niece (Amy Rush) to stop the demons of the author's mind which have been set free by a demonic ventriloquist's dummy. [Source: Variety]

A Monster Calls
Felicity Jones ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2," "Rosaline") has joined the cast of Juan Antonio Bayona's adaptation of the Patrick Ness children's fantasy novel "A Monster Calls".

The story follows a young boy who attempts to deal with the illness of his mother (Jones) and the bullying of classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales. [Source: Deadline]

Midnight Rider
Randall Miller's "Midnight Rider" has lost its main star. William Hurt has dropped out of the role of Gregg Allman in the film which went on hiatus following the on-set death of camera assistant Sarah Jones in February due to a train accident.

If it does resume production, it could face union pressure, litigation and protests from sectors of the film community, while if other actors don't return some major recasting may be in order. [Source: THR]

The Driftless Area
Zooey Deschanel, Anton Yelchin, John Hawkes, Ciaran Hinds and Alia Shawkat have all joined Zachary Sluser's dark comedy "The Driftless Area" at Unified Pictures and Bron Studios. Filming begins May 14th in Vancouver.

Based on Tom Drury's novel, Yelchin plays a bartender who returns to his hometown after the death of his parents. He falls in love with an enigmatic woman (Deschanel), and finds himself the target of a volatile criminal (Hawkes). [Source: Variety]
