A few weeks ago filmmaker Richard Donner got many of us excited when he said that plans for a sequel to classic 1980s family adventure film "The Goonies" were moving forward and he hopes all the original cast members return.
Today, speaking with TMZ again, Donner revealed a new bit of information. Turns out not only is producer Steven Spielberg returning for the film, it is him who is responsible for the follow-up's story (just like he was with the first film).
Donner says: "Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don't do it without him, and he came up with another storyline and he's right on."
How many of the original cast members will return is unknown but all, even Josh Brolin, have expressed interest in returning. No word if the original film's scribe Chris Columbus will also return.
