The NPD Group have announced video game sales figures through end of March which promptly led to both Microsoft and Sony issuing press releases this week as to how many Xbox One and PlayStation 4 units they've respectively sold.
Sony have announced that over 7 million PS4 units have been "sold through" to consumers, whereas Microsoft claims that over 5 million XB1 units have been "sold-in" to retailers.
"Sold through" is the name given to how many units have actually been sold to the public, whereas "sold-in" refers to how many have been shipped to retailers.
It's estimated that the Xbox One's likely "sold through" rate is in the low 4 million range. At the end of last year, 3.9 million XB1's had been "sold-in" but only 3.0 million had been "sold through". At that time, 4.2 million PS4's had been "sold through".
In terms of gaming, Microsoft's "Titanfall" came out ahead as the best-selling game of the month followed by "Infamous: Second Son," "South Park: The Stick of Truth," "Call of Duty: Ghosts," "Dark Souls II" and "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes".
