"Trek" Scribes Pen "Flash Gordon" Reboot"?

It has been reported online that scribes J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are attached to a big screen reboot of "Flash Gordon".

Film Divider (via Screen Rant) reports the rumor, claiming the pair are working with a producer and are "in the process of making a studio deal."

Payne and McKay are best known for a work that hasn't been released yet - they're the guys collaborating with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on the script for the next installment of the "Star Trek" film franchise. The pair are also still attached to J.J. Abrams' graphic novel adaptation "Boilerplate".

"Flash Gordon" centers on an athlete who is kidnapped and taken to the distant planet Mongo, where he and companions Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov embark on a series of adventures fighting a ruler named Ming the Merciless.

Various film and TV adaptations of the property have happened over the years, most notably the big-budget 1980 film which became a camp classic. Several attempts have been made in recent years to revive the property with "Sahara" filmmaker Breck Eisner the most recent name attached a few years back.
