Amongst the geek set, Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for his work on the Steven Moffat-produced "Sherlock" series and the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek Into Darkness".
Yet Moffat and Abrams are best known for two other still ongoing gigs - "Doctor Who" and the upcoming "Star Wars" sequel trilogy respectively. This has naturally lead to much rumor and speculation that Cumberbatch will one day appear in one or both.
Appearing as part of a Q&A session this weekend in Sydney, the actor was asked about that. In the process, he didn't just shoot down the existing rumors but ruled out all future speculation as well in two short but succinct quotes:
"I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen sadly."
"I'm never gonna play The Doctor, & nothing to do with the Whoniverse"
Of course Cumberbatch famously denied the various casting rumors regarding his character in 'Into Darkness,' rumors which did turn out to be true. Either way, "Star Wars" casting announcements are expected very shortly.
