Kong, Superman Have FX Heavy Budgets

By Garth Franklin Monday October 31st 2005 08:51PM

Variety reports that Universal has acknowledged that "King Kong" costs shot up to $207 million when the studio agreed to add a half hour - at a cost of $32 million. Most of that cost ($1 million per minute) is due to more f/x which Peter Jackson has agreed to pick up the bulk of that overages tab.

At Warner Bros., the f/x budget alone on "Superman Returns" is said to be running to $100 million. Directory Bryan Singer stated the other month that the film's overall budget is officially around $250 million although didn't indicate if the currently filming reshoots or the project's pre-Singer near decade of development costs (a number quoted to be anywhere between $40-70 million) affected that figure.
