Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment are teaming up to develop a film adaptation of Jim Starlin's 1980s cult comic book series "Dreadstar".

The story follows Vanth Dreadstar, the last survivor of the Milky Way Galaxy who is torn between two powerful and evil empires, the Monarch and the Church of The Instrumentality.

He is aided by a motley crew of survivors - the mystic Syzygy Darklock, the telepath Willow and a cat-man called Oedi.

J.C. Spink and Ford Lytle Gilmore will produce. A writer is being sought to pen the script.

Starlin is the co-creator of Marvel characters like Thanos, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora which are all a part of the upcoming Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy".
