Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe are teaming to produce a reboot of "The Grudge" franchise.
Takashi Shimizu helmed both the original Japanese "Ju-On" and its 2004 Hollywood remake "The Grudge" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. That remake scored $187 million worldwide from a $10 million budget.
Gellar played an American nurse working in Tokyo, who is exposed to a dangerous supernatural curse that locks the victim into a powerful rage.
Two further sequels were made in 2006 and 2009, the last going direct-to-video. Jeff Buhler ("Midnight Meat Train," "Insanitarium") has been hired to write the reboot's script.
Sam Raimi, who produced the first remake, will also produce this reboot alongside Rob Tapert and Takashige Ichise. No production schedule has been announced.
