Ivan Reitman has dropped out of directing the "Ghostbusters" reboot at Sony Pictures, with the search now underway for a new helmer.
The studio and the filmmaker have been trying to get a third "Ghostbusters" going for years, with numerous script drafts which early on had the original cast members and a new team of 'Ghostbusters' in equal measure.
More recent drafts turn this into more of a reboot than a sequel, the original actors only appearing in cameos. The passing of Harold Ramis and the almost certain non-involvement of Bill Murray means the idea of a straight reboot is looking more and more likely.
Reitman will remain on the project as a producer, and filming aims to begin in early 2015.
