Five actors have reportedly risen to the top of J.J. Abrams' list for the role of the "lead Jedi apprentice" in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII" at Disney and Lucasfilm.
According to Variety, the likes of Ed Speleers ("Eragon"), John Boyega ("Attack the Block"), Matthew James Thomas ("About a Boy"), Jesse Plemons ("Breaking Bad") and Broadway actor Ray Fisher are all battling for the coveted role.
The part is NOT one of the Skywalker children, but is believed to have a storyline that runs through all three movies.
The source says while the five are at the top of the list at this moment, casting is still under way and the search continues so new names could potentially bump one or more of these off.
The report also says that while not confirmed, "Girls" star Adam Driver is a lock for the main villain who will face off against the Jedi apprentice in this three-part saga.
Production is slated to begin mid-year at London's Pinewood Studios.
