Sony Pictures Animation has announced a trio of projects it intends to release over the next two or three years.
Popular animator Genndy Tartakovsky ("Samurai Jack," "Dexter's Laboratory") is a big part of those plans and is involved in numerous projects for the company.
The first is a sequel to "Hotel Transylvania" which Tartakovsky has signed on to direct from a script by Adam Sandler and Robert Smigel. That film is currently targeting a September 2015 release.
Another is a new original creation being called "Genndy Tartakovsky's Can You Imagine" which is described as "a fantastic journey through one boy's imagination". Tartakovsky will write and direct the film for a 2017 release.
Yet another project he's a part of is a new version of "Popeye" which the studio plans to release in 2016.
The one project he isn't a part of though is an all-animated third "The Smurfs" movie which Kelly Asbury ("Shrek 2," "Gnomeo and Juliet") is slated to helm. That film is targeting an August 2016 release.
