AMC is teaming with Next Games to create what it says is the first mobile game based on its incredibly popular zombie drama series "The Walking Dead".
Developed for smartphones and tablets, AMC and Next Games are preparing a global launch of the currently untitled game simultaneously with the show's fifth-season premiere in October.
Details of the game's story are being kept under wraps, but the developer claims it will have the same tone and tension of the AMC drama.
Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen says "It's unlike anything we've seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before."
'Walking' has had a mixed history when it comes to video games. On the one hand there's Telltale Games' serialised game based on the comics which has scored acclaim the world over and topped many 'Best of Year' lists. On the other there's the first-person shooter "The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct" which was a critical disaster upon release.
The series itself remains TV's No. 1 show amongst adults 18-49 demographic, and is a global franchise that regularly ranks in the top spot in several countries worldwide.
