Steven Spielberg is reportedly said to be keen on directing a remake of the 1961 musical "West Side Story" for 20th Century Fox.
The classic film, based on the 1957 Broadway play, followed Maria (Natalie Wood) and Tony (Richard Beymer) who fall in love, even though they are both affiliated with rival gangs.
Fox has reportedly revived the project specifically because of Spielberg's interest, though no screen writer is yet set. If it does go forward it would be only the second remake Spielberg has done besides "War of the Worlds".
The news comes as fellow DreamWorks executive Stacey Snider is said to be considering a move to Fox after her contract expires at the end of this year.
