Warner Bros. Pictures have snapped up the distribution rights to the James 'Whitey' Bulger biopic "Black Mass" starring Johnny Depp. They've also announced an October 2015 release date.
A few weeks ago Tom Hardy was said to be in talks to co-star as FBI agent and Bulger's childhood friend John Connolly, a role Joel Edgerton was originally slated to play a while back.
Now, Hardy isn't involved and Edgerton has come back to the role. Scott Cooper ("Out of the Furnace") directs from a script by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth.
Filming will take place in Boston starting late April. With Warners taking on the project, they've advised that they will not proceed with another Bulger film they had in development with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon attached.
