Joseph Gordon-Levitt has reportedly committed to playing French high wire artist Philippe Petit in Robert Zemeckis' upcoming 3D feature "To Walk The Clouds" at TriStar Pictures. Filming begins in May.
Based on Petit's own memoir, the story centers around Petit's feat of walking across a wire between New York City's Twin Towers in 1974 - a stunt he spent six years planning and preparing for.
Because he'd executed his stunt without official permission, he was arrested as soon as he stepped off the wire. All charges against him were ultimately dropped. The incident was chronicled in 2008's acclaimed documentary "Man on Wire".
The project aims to be done with 3D integration as crucial as it was to films like "Avatar," "Life Of Pi" and "Gravity". Zemeckis and Christopher Browne co-wrote the script and Zemeckis will produce alongside Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey.
