In the least shocking sequel news of the year, Universal Pictures is quickly assembling a sequel to this year's sleeper comedy hit "Ride Along".
Tim Story is slated to direct while Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are closing to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner's (Cube's) sister. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will also be back to pen the script.
Shot for just $25 million, the movie opened mid-January to a record-breaking $41.5 million and stayed in the top spot for three weeks. It remains in the top six with incredible holding power and has made a highly impressive $117 million domestically.
The sequel is expected to have more action and include a more multi-cultural demographic to appeal to an international audiences as both American comedies and African-American targeted films can struggle overseas at the box-office.
Filming aims to begin late June/early July.
