Trade Breaks: Diamond, Dark, Dreamgirls

John Hodge ("Trainspotting") has been tapped to adapt "The Dark Is Rising" for Walden Media. This is the first film adaptation of author Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" series which is the story of Will Stanton, a boy whose life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark. As he uncovers mysterious clues, Stanton discovers that with the dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in his hands..." (full details)

"Paramount Pictures has signed on as DreamWorks' dance partner for "Dreamgirls," the Bill Condon-directed adaptation of the stage musical. The studios will co-finance the film, a thinly veiled telling of the rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes in the formative years of Motown Records. Pic stars Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy. DreamWorks will release the film in North America; Paramount will handle overseas. Production begins in January for a December 2006 release..."
