The new TV series adaptation of Jean-Claude Forest's cult French comic "Barbarella" has been set up at Amazon Studios.

Bond series scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are penning the pilot script, and a search is underway for a show runner.

"Drive" and "Only God Forgives" director Nicolas Winding Refn is attached to executive produce, as is Martha De Laurentiis - wife of the late Dino De Laurentiis who produced the famed 1968 film adaptation starring Jane Fonda.

Gaumont International Television ("Hannibal," "Hemlock Grove," "Narco") are producing the project which has been in the works for a year and a half.
