A&E is developing a contemporary remake of the acclaimed 1980s Michael Landon drama "Highway to Heaven".
The original series ran for five seasons and centered on an angel sent down to Earth on probation where he's given assignments by God help troubled souls and ultimately earn his wings back.
Former "Hell on Wheels" showrunner John Wirth is writing the new version which Mark Wahlberg ("Entourage") and Stephen Levinson ("Boardwalk Empire") will serve as executive producers.
The project would be A&E's fourth scripted drama series on the air after "Bates Motel," "Longmire" and the upcoming "Those Who Kill".
