In one of the strangest stories in a while, a report has gone up suggesting that Robert Downey Jr. is using his pulling power at Marvel to try and get friends Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster to appear in upcoming Marvel projects - specifically either the next "Avengers" or the one after that.
The report comes from Radar Online who quotes an unidentified source:
"Robert is raising eyebrows with his efforts on behalf of his longtime best pals Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson. He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films. It's been a longtime dream of Robert's to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he's achieved in recent years.
Gibson remains a tough sell, especially at averse-risk Marvel and Disney following much-publicised incidents in his personal life over the past few years. Yet Gibson has finally been getting work again recently in such films as "Machete Kills" and this year's "The Expendables 3".
Foster on the other hand is an easy fit, and lends immediate gravitas to the film series in much the same way Robert Redford's involvement in the "Captain America" sequel automatically gives that film a bit more prestige to those outside of superhero fandom. It's more a question of what role she could play and whether she has any interest in it.
