The Top 20 Domestic Grossers Of 2013

Earlier this week came a list of the top grossing films at the worldwide box-office. Today, the focus is reduced to the domestic box-office and showcases what films did well in North America.

The list showcases how films did in the 2013 calendar year, meaning those that opened late in the year are likely to change position over the next month or two. Nevertheless, as it stands now, here is the top twenty:

  1. "Iron Man 3" - $409 million
  2. "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" - $393.5 million
  3. "Despicable Me 2" - $367.8 million
  4. "Man of Steel" - $291 million
  5. "Frozen" - $271.8 million
  6. "Monsters University" - $268.5 million
  7. "Gravity" - $254.6 million
  8. "Fast & Furious 6" - $238.7 million
  9. "Oz The Great and Powerful" - $234.9 million
  10. "Star Trek Into Darkness" - $228.8 million
  11. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" - $209.3 million
  12. "Thor: The Dark World" - $202.9 million
  13. "World War Z" - $202.4 million
  14. "The Croods" - $187.2 million
  15. "The Heat" - $159.6 million
  16. "We're the Millers" - $150.4 million
  17. "The Great Gatsby" - $144.8 million
  18. "The Conjuring" - $137.4 million
  19. "Identity Thief" - $134.5 million
  20. "Grown Ups 2" - $133.7 million

The year closed out with $10.914 billion dollars of revenue generated by 1,355.8 million tickets sold. That's up by 0.7% in revenue but down by 0.4% in admittance. Approximately 669 films were released in cinemas in North America this year, compared with 506 a decade ago and 462 two decades ago.
