Black Bear Pictures have unveiled the first official photo of Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing in the biopic "The Imitation Game" directed by Morten Tyldum ("Headhunters").
Graham Moore penned the much-heralded screenplay about Turing, a mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, computer scientist, criminally prosecuted and chemically castrated homosexual, and tortured soul who committed suicide by eating a cyanide-laced apple.
Turing was highly influential in the founding of computer science and artificial intelligence, along with devising techniques for breaking German ciphers during the Second World War. He was also one of the earliest to explore the biological process of morphogenesis.
The photo was released following Turing's official Royal Pardon that was issued posthumously this past Christmas Eve, 61 years after his death.
