Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly pursuing Joaquin Phoenix for a role in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Batman vs. Superman" film. The role in question? It's thought to be the film's main antagonist - Lex Luthor.
However, even if Warners offers Phoenix the role it's uncertain if he would accept as he has avoided big-budget studio films in recent years. He's also considering an offer for Gus Van Sant's "Sea of Trees".
Jason Momoa and Callan Mulvey have reportedly been linked to villain roles in the film, but those roles aren't the primary antagonist for which the studio wants a major name.
In related news, Oscar-winning "Argo" screenwriter Chris Terrio has come onboard the project to pen a rewrite of David Goyer's script in order to "get the script in shape before filming begins."
