Disney Channel has announced "Descendants," a contemporary live-action adventure-comedy which will raid the studio's vault of beloved characters.

Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical") will direct the project set in a present-day idyllic kingdom where the benevolent teenage son of King Beast and Queen Belle offers a chance at redemption for the troublemaking offspring of Cruella De Vil (Carlos), Maleficent (Mal), the Evil Queen (Evvie) and Jafar (Jay).

The four have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with the other villains, sidekicks, evil stepmothers and stepsisters. Allowed back into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside Disney heroes like the Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan, they face the dilemma of either following in their evil parents' footsteps or embracing their goodness.

Josanna McGibbon and Sara Parriott ("The Starter Wife," "Desperate Housewives") penned the script and casting is underway.
