Having wrapped work on "X-Men: Days of Future Past," actor Hugh Jackman is now a free man - no longer committed to any other future films in the "X-Men" franchise.
Despite this, 20th Century Fox is pushing ahead with both a sequel to James Mangold's "The Wolverine" from this past Summer, and the just announced "X-Men: Apocalypse". So, could Jackman be lured back to play Logan again for what would technically be 'Wolverine 3'? The actor tells Vanity Fair he's unsure:
"I don't know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of (The Wolverine) and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride.
That's exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn't reach those, I won't be doing it."
Nevertheless he's keeping himself in the loop, saying he and Mangold have been in touch with ideas for the project. However, there is no script and no writer yet so it is a while off.
Earlier this week, Mangold told The Wall Steet Journal that whatever story they do develop, it will likely be sourced from the comics be it directly or indirectly:
"I would just say it is always going to be about his relationships to other characters. We are very much trying to work with existing text. There are other great Wolverine stories out there but suffice it to say there are great texts about his connections to others, villains, characters from the lore and from the comics that we can bring out and have another great and meaningful adventure."
