"Veronica Mars" is hitting screens one year and one day after word broke of her revival. The Kickstarter campaign from creator Rob Thomas, to fund the film based on the prematurely cancelled teen detective drama series, was announced on March 13th this year.
Today, Thomas confirms to EW that Warners has settled on a March 14th 2014 release date for the finished film. He's also dropped some good news - the original distribution plans have changed, and for the better.
Originally slated for a limited engagement in a few cities before a wide VOD and digital platform release, Warner will now give the film a nationwide release - though the number of screens is still to be determined.
Thomas, who confirms the film's title is simply "Veronica Mars," says a recent test audience screening went very well, jokingly saying:
"There are smart ways to do a movie of this size — and we chose none of them. We are a low budget movie with big set pieces and 60 speaking roles. A murder mystery in a house would have been more cost effective. But I think we have managed to pull it off."
