Chris McQuarrie's Next: "Paramount has signed Oscar-winning scribe Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects") to pen an untitled military action-adventure for Par-based Alphaville. Project, expected to be fast-tracked, will center on the fate of a special forces team assigned to test the security of the most sensitive government and military installations. A year after they disband, they are asked to reassemble to stop the terrorist activities of a group that has adopted their tactics and techniques..." (more info). Hack/Slash: "Producer Adrian Askarieh's Prime Universe Prods. has signed a two-year first-look deal with comicbook company Devil's Due Publishing. First project to come out of alliance will be the upcoming horror pic "Hack/Slash," to be released in April..." (more info). Napoleon and Betsy: "Lions Gate has acquired "Napoleon and Betsy," a pitch for a drama about the friendship between Napoleon Bonaparte and a young British girl (Scarlett Johansson). The project tells the story of the emperor's final years, as seen through the girl's eyes. Initially defiant and planning to escape, Bonaparte tries to enlist her in his fantasy to regrasp power, but eventually becomes resigned to his fate..." (more info). Red Eye: "DreamWorks has bought the script "Red Eye" by TV scribe Carl Ellsworth and is gearing up for flight. Mason Novick will produce the pic, about a woman held captive on an airplane. The Assassination of Jesse James: "Eyeing a chance to cast Brad Pitt as gunslinger Jesse James, Warner Bros. has formed a posse with Plan B, Scott Free and director Andrew Dominik to make a Western out of Robert Hansen novel. ..." (more info). The Club: "Paramount Pictures is taking another swing at "The Club," tapping Emmy winner Ali LeRoi to pen the golfing comedy. Project, produced by Par-based Walter Latham ("The Original Kings of Comedy") and MBST Entertainment's Larry Brezner, centers on the fictional George Washington Carver Country Club in Compton. The facility's owner attempts to solve its financial problems by luring a pro golf event, sparking a fight between his son and a local hustler..." (more info). The User: "Paramount Pictures has decided to make use of "The User," buying a pitch from the scripting team of Eric Abrams and Matthew Berry. Story centers on a prospective groom who unwittingly becomes the subject of an angry female rock anthem..." (more info). Young Adam: "Sony Pictures Classics lost its ratings board appeal Thursday against the NC-17 tag slapped on "Young Adam," making the Ewan McGregor starrer the second film this year from Brit producer Jeremy Thomas to be released under the restrictive rating. Thomas also produced Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers"..." Beauty Shop: "Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou and Alicia Silverstone are checking into "Beauty Shop" alongside Queen Latifah for MGM and "Honey" helmer Bille Woodruff. Everything Is Illuminated: "lijah Wood is set to star in Warner Independent Pictures' "Everything Is Illuminated." Liev Schreiber is making his directorial debut on the feature. "Illuminated" tells the story of a young American Jewish man (Wood) and his quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazis. House of Wax: "Jared Padalecki is prepping to check into the "House of Wax" for helmer Jaume Collet-Serra. Filming begins in May in Australia.
