Warner Bros. Pictures is moving up development of "Sleeper," a film adaptation of the Ed Brubaker-written comic which began in 2003.
Set in a noir universe, the story deals with a few people who spontaneously developing superpowers. One of them is Holden Carver, a man who can absorb pain and pass it on to others.
He infiltrates a criminal organization on behalf of a law enforcement agency, but his allegiances soon come into question. No director or actors are yet attached.
Shawn Ryan ("Last Resort") and David Wiener ("The Killing") have been brought onboard to pen the adaptation. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd will produce.
Sam Raimi and Tom Cruise were attached to a previous incarnation of the project.
