Two creature feature franchises are coming together in the direct-to-disc release "Lake Placid vs Anaconda".
1997's giant snake feature "Anaconda" was a straight up creature feature about a "National Geographic" film crew taken hostage by an insane Paraguayan hunter who is out to capture the world's largest snake. Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Ice Cube, Own Wilson, Eric Stoltz, and Danny Trejo starred.
"Boston Legal" creator David E. Kelly wrote 1999's "Lake Placid" about a giant crocodile terrorising an idyllic lake in the United States. The cast included Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Mariska Hargitay and a foul-mouthed Betty White.
Both turned out to be solid little earners from relatively tight budgets. As a result, increasingly silly and lesser seen sequels were greenlit - both franchises ending up with four entires, almost all of which went direct to disc.
Now, rights to both franchises have ended up at Sony and the plan is to combine them for a micro budget feature which will begin shooting in early December in Bulgaria.
