Back in February 2011, a trailer for a video game briefly became a pop culture phenomenon. The announcement trailer for the then unknown tropical island zombie video game "Dead Island" was a three-minute, nonlinear emotional piece that had many people raving and immediately went viral with well over 12 million views.
As a piece of marketing it was genius, and generated strong sales for the game. Sadly the game itself was nothing like the trailer, a fairly generic zombie title whose only real difference was its tropical setting.
Now, nearly three years on, Machinima has released a live-action remake of the trailer which gives you an idea of what the film version in development at Lionsgate might look like. I've also included the original CG trailer below for comparison sake:
