Actor Josh Gad ("Love and Other Drugs," "Jobs") has a side job going on at the moment, he and co-writer Ryan Dixon are currently penning the script for "Triplets," the sequel to the 1988 comedy "Twins".
As previously reported, the project sees the reunion of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito onscreen. In this outing, they meet another long-lost sibling (to be played by Eddie Murphy).
Out doing promotion for the new animated feature "Frozen," Gad tells Coming Soon that he and Dixon have had to acknowledge both the passing of time, and the absurdity of the whole first film in their script:
"We're very reverential to the original, but have our tongue firmly in our cheek. As it needs to be, it's very modernized. It's taking them into the new world and it's acknowledging that comedy's changed a lot in 20 years.
If you saw Twins and it was released as a movie currently, you'd be like, ‘This is really strange,' so we honor that and we respect it, but we also play on it."
They already handed a first draft in which received "much enthusiasm," so they are now working on the second.
