Appearing at an Australians in Film awards dinner late last week, the Wachowski siblings spoke a bit about their upcoming science-fiction epic "Jupiter Ascending" which is targeting a Summer 2014 release.
Andy Wachowski says the film has wrapped shooting and is well into post-production now. On the one hand, he says editing on the film has been a lot smoother than it was with the more narrative complex "Cloud Atlas". On the other, the new film's visual effects are "way more complicated."
Talking about the film's content and scale, Lana Wachowski kept the details secret. She said:
"It's a science-fiction space opera. It has a lot of things from a lot of genres that we love. It's got a lot of original action, it's got a lot of romance.
We seem not to be very good at making small things. We keep saying 'Let's go make a small movie.' But then they always end up being enormously complex. We want to somehow always find something that is different or that no one has tried.
People come up to us and just break into tears talking about ('Cloud Atlas')," Lana Wachowski said. "Even 'Speed Racer,' we get people that come up and say it was their favorite movie of all time. We've been very lucky that way. We have great fans. ... And we keep trying to keep surprising them."
The pair are also set to begin pre-production on Netflix's sci-fi series "Sense8" in January. Afterwards, they are going to take a sabbatical.
