Will Staples has been hired to pen a currently untitled project at Warner Bros. Pictures and Pearl Street Films that is being setup as both a directing and starring vehicle for Ben Affleck.
Set in Africa, the story follows a bunch of mercenaries who are hired to kill a warlord who has been committing atrocities against his own people.
Though an action movie, the film also examines issues of neocolonialism - how economic power is used by developed countries (eg. foreign aid, philanthropy) to exert military and political pressure on developing countries.
Affleck came up with the idea for the film and will produce with Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd. No word on when this will film, but with Affleck's commitments to "Gone Girl," "Live By Night" and "Batman vs. Superman," expect it to be some time off.
