The man who created Pinhead and the "Hellraiser" franchise in the first place is coming back for the reboot.
Author Clive Barker announced on his Facebook page that he's pitched an idea to Dimension Pictures for a remake of the first "Hellraiser" film.
The studio is sold enough on the idea they have asked him to move forward with writing a script. Barker also plans to bring back Doug Bradley, the actor who played Pinhead, for the reboot.
Barker says: "What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER."
The original 1987 film was based upon Barker's own novella "The Hellbound Heart" and made a tidy $14 million off a $1 million budget.
The film, and subsequent series, dealt with a puzzle box that called forth the cenobites (demons from Hell). The series was famous for its often extreme, yet imaginative gore.
