Emma Roberts ("Aquamarine", Nick TV's "Unfabulous") has signed on to play famed teenage sleuth Nancy Drew in a new big-screen version entitled "Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills" for Warner Bros. Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Jerry Weintraub is producing and Andrew Fleming ("The In-Laws") is directing the project which will utilise characters from the popular Carolyn Keene series -- Nancy and her pals, Bess and George. The last time this trio hit the big screen was via a four movie series back in the 1930's (they have appeared on TV and in video game form since the 1970's).
In the film, Nancy Drew accompanies her father on a business trip to Los Angeles, and she stumbles on evidence about a long-unsolved crime involving the death of a movie star. Her resourcefulness and personal responsibility are put to the test when she finds herself in the middle of the fast-living, self-indulgent world of Hollywood.
The 14 year-old Roberts is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts. Shooting is expected to begin early next year.
