A specially created teaser trailer for next month's 50th anniversary special has arrived. The trailer doesn't include any actual footage from the special, instead it mixes shots of various previous incarnations and bits of Who-lore before jumping to current Doctor Matt Smith addressing the screen:
It's jam-packed with references that fans will find as they go through it frame-by-frame - from specific episode references like "An Unearthly Child" and "The Robots of Death," to props and creatures like Bessie, the Daleks, Autons, Cybermen, Racnoss, Ood, The Silence, and all the previous incarnations of The Doctor.
In other 'Who' news, actor Ben Daniels has spoken out about all the talk regarding his rumored casting as the next incarnation of The Doctor several months back when he was in the running.
In a lengthy response to Digital Spy, the "House of Cards" and "The Paradise" star said "it was more than rumour" and he was approached.
Matt Smith's departure was leaked earlier than planned, and Daniels' name "was one of the names on one of their many lists they had as a possible replacement." He was a big fan of the 3rd, 4th and 9th Doctors and was hugely excited by the idea.
He remained on the shortlist, though was aware that a front runner was ahead of him. Two weeks before the announcement of Peter Capaldi, Daniels was advised that "their shortlist had got much shorter! But it didn't mean I wouldn't come back into the frame. So I took that to mean the deal was being done with whoever was the frontrunner and if it all fell through, then those of us who were trailing behind would be in with a chance."
Next up, the BBC have posted a specially crafted image featuring all eleven incarnations so far of the Time Lord to celebrate the release of today's trailer.
Finally, show runner Steven Moffat tells The Mirror that Capaldi has recently shopping around for his signature Doctor costume: "He was texting me 'I'm out with [the wardrobe stylist] at the moment, it's going quite well' and some descriptions of clothes I did not understand. If it's not a suit…"
He also adds that Capaldi "likes his clothes, he's got very strong opinions about clothes, he's very dashing."
