Despite a soft start in the United States, Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" has proven to be one of the solid hits of the Summer with a very healthy $408 million global box-office tally so far.
Coming in at a cost of $190 million, it's uncertain right now whether that box-office is enough for Warner Brothers to move forward with a sequel. Whatever the case, del Toro is already preparing the way.
Speaking to IGN about the Blu-ray release of PacRim, del Toro says:
"We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that's definitely above my pay rate."
He also spoke about his "Pinocchio" project which he says is currently looking for a new producing partner after one of their previous ones gave up on filmmaking altogether.
del Toro is presently at work preparing for the gothic horror thriller "Crimson Peak".
