Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival has been running for 35 years. What started out as a quiet little event to celebrate indie films has turned into a major media circus descending on Utah every year.
The events, parties and star spotting has often taken attention away from the films, something Redford himself isn't happy about. In an interview with Men's Journal, he also has an idea of who kicked off the avalanche:
"Harvey wanted to be a Hollywood mogul, he's got a real merchant mentality; he would start to pick stuff. Then Hollywood came.
When the actors started to come, the paparazzi came, and once the paparazzi came, then fashion came, and suddenly you had [Paris Hilton]. I felt at a certain point that we were being engulfed."
