Japanese guitarist and singer Miyavi is set, and Aussie actor Jordan Patrick Smith (TV's "Neighbors") is in negotiations to join the cast of the Louis Zamperini biopic "Unbroken" at Universal Pictures.

Angelina Jolie directs the tale of Zamperini (Jack O'Connell), a former Olympian and WWII bombadier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943. He and two crewmates were adrift for 47 days and until he was caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where he was specifically targeted by a sadistic overseer.

Miyavi will play the role of that overseer Mutsushiro Watanabe, known as 'The Bird', who made it his mission to break the spirit of Zamperini.

Smith would play Cliff, an Australian prisoner who can't take life in the POW camp much longer.

Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro also star. Filming begins in Australia in two weeks ahead of a Christmas 2014 release.
