David Tennant Joins "Broadchurch" Remake

By Garth Franklin Wednesday October 2nd 2013 12:13PM

David Tennant will reprise his role of D.I. Alec Hardy from the UK drama "Broadchurch" for the upcoming U.S. event series reboot on Fox.

Like the original, this one follows the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found dead on a beach by the base of a cliff-face from where he might have fallen.

Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, this sleepy seaside town full of secrets becomes the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy.

Former "Doctor Who" star Tennant will play essentially the same role of the lead male investigator on the case. This time though he'll be sporting an American accent. It's an arrangement similar to that of Mark Strong in AMC's "Low Winter Sun" remake.

Series creator Chris Chibnall will executive produce the American incarnation, while Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein have signed on as executive producers and showrunners. Filming begins in January.
