Warner Bros. Pictures has a new sugar daddy, and his name is James Packer. Packer is the son of Kerry Packer, that other billionaire Aussie media mogul not named Murdoch.
Packer, Dune Entertainment's Steven Mnuchin and filmmaker Brett Ratner have partnered up to form RatPac-Dune Entertainment which has now locked down a $450 million deal to cover Warners' and New Line's entire movie slate up to 75 titles.
Essentially that covers all of Warners movies over the next 3-4 years, effectively replacing the previous deal in place with Legendary Entertainment.
Unlike that arrangement, where Legendary could pick and choose what projects it got involved in, RatPac-Dune will basically be involved in everything.
Despite his involvement, Ratner will not have creative input on the films.
