Owen & Rush Live In A Golden Age

By Garth Franklin Friday September 2nd 2005 11:42PM

Geoffrey Rush and Clive Owen have come aboard Working Title and Universal Pictures' "The Golden Age," a sequel to "Elizabeth" which original film director Shekhar Kapur is helming says Variety.

Cate Blanchett will apparentlyreprise her Oscar-nominated role as Queen Elizabeth I (although recent comments by her made this now seem in question). The first pic focused on the transformation of the young woman into a steely monarch in the 16th century. Rush will return as Sir Francis Walsingham, who in the first film was the architect of the queen's ruthless campaign to solidify her power and stabilize rule in England.

The new film will focus on the relationship between Elizabeth I and Walter Raleigh, to be played by Owen. Filming will begin in April from a script by William Nicholson and Michael Hirst.
