Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have made a distribution pact with 20th Century Fox for the feature film "Son of God".
The project is a cut down version of the History Channel's epic 10-hour miniseries "The Bible" which was a ratings smash earlier this year.
The film will focus on the story of Jesus (Diogo Morgado). As a result, the narrative is complete re-edit assembled from the parts of the mini-series covering Christ's birth through to the Resurrection.
Further scenes not featured in the telecast will be added to the film to flesh it out to a 135 minute runtime. The studio is working out a release date for next year with international markets expected to be big buyers of the property.
