Relativity Media has signed on to fund and produce Brad Furman's $25 million Pablo Escobar biopic "King Of Cocaine".
John Leguizamo has been set to play the Medellin Cartel drug kingpin, taking over after the likes of Oscar Isaac and Benecio Del Toro were in talks and then dropped out.
The long-gestating production is finally ready to start filming in Colombia in January. Scott Steindorff will produce.
Leguizamo reportedly scored the role after spending upwards of $15,000 of his own money for a fat suit and prosthetic makeup to resemble Escobar in his prime. A screen test with it was convincing enough for Relativity's Tucker Tooley and Ryan Kavanaugh.
