Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock," "Star Trek Into Darkness") is in negotiations to star in James Gray's true story explorer drama "Lost City Of Z" at Panorama Media.
Cumberbatch would play Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, a former decorated British soldier turned early 20th century explorer.
Fawcett and his son disappeared in 1925 during an expedition to find the ancient and lost 'City of Z' in the uncharted jungles of the Amazon.
Over the next seventy years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett's path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers.
Gray penned the script based on the book by David Grann. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas will produce.
Pitt was originally slated to star in the project a few years ago, but ultimately dropped out in 2010.
