He played the villain in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness," now there's rumor he may be re-teaming with Abrams to do something similar - albeit as part of another sci-fi franchise.
Film Chronicles reports that "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch is up for a key role in Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII" at Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm.
Should it prove true, the casting is not unexpected. Cumberbatch lives in London where the film will shoot early next year, Cumberbatch is a confirmed "Star Wars" fanatic, and Abrams has a tendency to use cast members from previous projects in other films and franchises.
Cumberbatch can next be seen starring as Julian Assange in Bill Condon's major awards contender "The Fifth Estate" opening October 18th.
He was also photographed last week in a London Pizzeria filming scenes for the third episode of the third series of "Sherlock". Filming on the third series wrapped over the weekend.
